CAPTAIN Kevin Leatham remains quietly confident of Weymouth & Portland’s chances of toppling Swanage & Wareham Seconds and maintaining their unbeaten home record tomorrow (2.30pm).

The Monmouth Avenue outfit were trading blows as Weymouth with the Swans’ first team until they pulled out of the Southern Counties South last season.

And with the visitors’ first XV flying high at the top of that division this term, Leatham believes the ability will filter down to their second string, who have an identical record in Dorset & Wilts Two South to that of Weymouth & Portland’s, even though the home side have been docked five points.

“We are expecting a really tough game,” the skipper told Echosport.

“They beat us by two points in a warm-up game during pre-season at their place but we are still unbeaten at home and we want to maintain that record.

“Their first team is top of Southern Counties and are unbeaten, so obviously it all filters down through the club.”

The home side will be without Steve Nation-Grainger for the clash, but Leatham is hoping that number eight Jake Guildford will be available to take his place in the side.

He added: “I think it’s going to be so tight at the top of this league this year and every game will be crucial.

“We just need to concentrate more on our defence, in the last game against Salisbury, we didn’t defend very well at all.

“We cannot afford to give away ground for no reason. Most of the games we lose we give the points away rather than a team earning them, we need to stop doing that, hold our discipline and be patient in the build-up.”

In Southern Counties, Dorchester will have the chance to leapfrog their seventh-placed opponents in the table when they visit North Dorset tomorrow (2.30pm).

A victory would give the county town club their fourth win in five league fixtures.

Meanwhile, leaders Swanage & Wareham host lowly Corsham (2.30pm).

Also in Dorset & Wilts Two, Bridport travel to Chapel Gate to take on Bournemouth Thirds and Puddletown host North Dorset Thirds (both 2.30pm).
