BRIDPORT 50 WIMBORNE III 0

BRIDPORT brushed aside Dorset & Wilts Two South whipping boys Wimborne Thirds with a half-century of points at the Brewery Field.

Wimborne might have broken the deadlock with a penalty in a kickable position but chose to tap and go instead.

The attack was snuffed out by determined Bridport tackling, setting the tone for an excellent defensive display from the hosts.

Another positive feature of Bridport’s game was the much-improved handling and distribution from the three-quarters.

This opened up Wimborne’s defence and let Ricky Stubbs drift through an enormous gap to score. Will Everitt converted.

Lee Burdett then added another well-worked try, again converted by Everitt, before the latter spun a long pass to give Stubbs his second score for a 19-0 lead.

The second half started with an excellent break from Ewan Dommett, who was making his debut for the senior side and playing with great confidence at number-eight.

All the momentum was with Bridport and Bret Chant found himself on the end of another excellent move to score out wide. Donald Farmer missed the conversion.

Burdett added to his tally with a storming run from the halfway line, Farmer adding the extras, then Tony Dommett set up Freddie Woolner for the next try.

Farmer, who was proving to be a handful for the opposition, provided the assist for Stubbs to complete his hat-trick. Woolner converted.

Finally, Harry Richardson spun through several tackles to score and Woolner’s kick made it 50-0.

Wimborne didn’t give up and enjoyed periods of pressure, but they were no match for a resurgent Bridport.

Bridport are home to much tougher opposition on Saturday in the shape of Salisbury Seconds.
