WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 14 NEW MILTON 7

WEYMOUTH & Portland Seconds secured their second league victory of the season, with a fine display from a number of colts that were playing their first game of senior rugby.

The hosts started strongly and were unlucky to concede the only try scored by New Milton in the first half, the away side were rewarded with the score after managing to turn the ball over on their own five-metre line.

But the Monmouth Avenue outfit galvanised and apply pressure, winning every scrum and attacking every line-out.

As the game opened up, fly-half Khylo Farely found some space to cross the whitewash and score the opening try for Wey-mouth.

The fitness of the younger players started to show and colt Robert MacDonald showed a clean pair of heels to the New Milton defence to add a second try for the home side, Farley added the extras.

Macdonald was unlucky not to touch down again late in the game as the referee ruled that it had been a double movement.

A superb performance from the hosts was exemplified by great scrummaging by the tight five of Tom Moate, Gary McIvor-Main, Andy Bowditch, Andy Dewell and Paul Stebbing.

There were also impressive showings from colts Rob Deadman, MacDonald, Danny Dyke and Josh Brown, who all enjoyed their first taste of senior action.

Tomorrow sees the Weymouth & Portland first XV host Puddletown in a Dorset & Wilts Two South derby at Monmouth Avenue (2.15pm).

The Villagers are one place and seven points above their hosts in the table going into the match.

In Dorset & Wilts Four, Weymouth & Portland Thirds, bottom of the standings, go to leaders Lytchett Minster (2.15pm).
