MARTYN Peel insists Dorchester have what it takes to overturn a defeat to Frome earlier in the season when the sides clash at Coburg Road tomorrow (2.30pm).

Peel’s charges were on the wrong end of a 20-13 scoreline against the Somerset outfit last autumn, a result which ended the county town team’s hopes of a third successive victory.

Frome go into this weekend’s showdown on the back of six wins in seven, while Dorchester’s run of five straight losses in Southern Counties South was only halted last weekend when opponents Corsham failed to raise a side.

“We were disappointed that Corsham were unable to raise a side as the lads were fired up for the game, although the points helped consolidate our position in the league,” said head coach Peel.

“We have worked hard this week to keep the motivation going for this weekend’s game which will be hard and physical.

“Frome are a useful side and have surprised a few teams this season.

“While we lost narrowly against them earlier in the season we know we have the game and ability to reverse that score.

“We have players returning from injury and it was great to see Carl Mitchell return last weekend when he played a full 80 minutes for the seconds against Puddletown and showed he is fit and back to his best.

“Last week’s cancellation enabled me to travel with the seconds and I was absolutely delighted with the way our young side dominated the game against a very experienced Puddletown side, who have been going well in the league.

“While we won 20-15, we left several scores out on the pitch, and there were several players that put themselves in the frame for the first XV.”

Also in Southern Counties South tomorrow, Swanage & Wareham will be looking for a sweet 16th win from 16 when they entertain Sherborne (2.30pm).

Down in Dorset & Wilts Two South, Dorchester Seconds bid for a third away triumph of the campaign against Wimborne Thirds, Puddletown visit East Dorset, and there is a derby at the Brewery Fields as Bridport face Weymouth & Portland (all 2.30pm).

“It’s been a few years since I took a team to Bridport so I’m looking forward to it, as are the players after a lack of rugby in recent weeks,” said Paul Harding, whose troops were left without a game last Saturday when North Dorset cried off.

“We have not been getting a chance to put into practice the things we’ve worked on in training.

“It has been frustrating that we’ve not had the opportunity to show what we can do because games keep getting called off.”

While Chris Hurrell is unavailable for selection, Harding welcomes back James Borrington to the front row, and Ben MacConnachie is set to step up from the seconds.

Meanwhile, Weymouth & Portland Seconds are home to Blandford Seconds in Dorset & Wilts Three South (2.15pm).
