SUPERMARINE 0 DORCHESTER 68

DAVE Gower marked his 300th appearance for Dorchester with the first try in the county town side’s Southern Counties South rout of Supermarine.

Other than a walkover against Corsham in January, Dorchester’s last victory on the field of play before Saturday had come against Supermarine in November.

Martyn Peel’s men won 43-7 at Coburg Road on that occasion, while this time they scored 10 tries and also kept a clean sheet in a 68-0 triumph.

Despite Dorchester’s improved form in the last few weeks, the game at Supermarine was always going to be a potential banana skin.

However, in the end the hosts had no answer to the visitors’ dominance.

Dorchester elected to play with the stiff breeze in the first half and it wasn’t long before they took the lead.

Gower reacted quickly to take a penalty and dive over for the opening try.

Minutes later the visitors worked an overlap for Zach Paton to score the first of his three tries.

James Newsam and Jamie Morgan also crossed for tries and with Alex Toms on song with the boot Dorchester led by 28 points at the break.

With the wind in their favour after the interval, the hosts were hoping for some kind of a comeback.

But it was Dorchester who scored next, Morgan sprinting though for his second try.

Supermarine never gave up but Dorchester were always too strong for them and Stephen Hodgson barrelled over from close range before Paton showed real pace to run in two tries from his own half.

Dorchester then really asserted their dominance with two scores from scrum-half Lewis Allan, one from 80 metres, the other from just a metre out.

Toms converted four of the five second-half tries to complete a very professional afternoon’s work.

Next up for Dorchester is a fixture against Sherborne, who are still in with a chance of finishing second.

And like Dorchester, Sherborne won on Saturday as they thumped Bradford-on-Avon 45-0.

Meanwhile, Dorchester Seconds smashed North Dorset Thirds 93-5 in Dorset & Wilts Two South, and to complete an excellent weekend, Dorchester Thirds saw off Wincanton 34-12 in Dorset & Wilts Four.
