EAST DORSET 43 BRIDPORT 14

EAST Dorset retained their 100 per cent record in Dorset & Wilts Two South with a comfortable victory over Bridport on a blustery afternoon at Iford Lane.

With the strong wind at their backs in the first half, the hosts were 26 points to the good before a weary Bridport summoned the necessary intensity to make a game of it.

Rallying from the early onslaught, the Blues forwards enjoyed a purple patch just before half-time with Dave Cutting scoring a try which Rory Greening converted.

Bridport, trailing 31-7, fared better in the second half as they played a more direct game through the pack.

Mike Pibworth and Daragh McLoughlin led the charge and, using the wind to their advantage, the visitors played more of the game in the oppositions’ half.

From one such incursion, Pibworth stole the ball at a lineout and crashed over to score from close range. Greening added the two points.

Bridport were now competing well against the champions but East Dorset amassed a further 12 points to clinch a 43-14 triumph.

Bridport’s last game of the season will be a home fixture against New Milton Seconds on April 11.
