WITH a little over two months to go until Dorchester RFC’s charity fundraising Rugbyathon gets underway, preparations for the event are gathering pace.

World Cup winner and England captain Sarah Hunter will carry out the first kick-off to mark the start of 24 hours of rugby on Friday, September 11.

Hunter, who also visited Weymouth for the prestigious Webb Ellis Cup tour last weekend, represented England at the 2010 Women’s World Cup and was an integral part of the team that won the tournament last year.

She also recently captained the side to a 39-13 victory against the USA.

Event organiser Martin Bartlett said: “We are extremely grateful to Sarah for taking time out to come and support our event, and to have a current international and World Cup winner attend is a tremendous boost.”

The line-up for the 24-hour rugby marathon is taking shape and the first game, scheduled to start at 5pm, is a local derby.

Dorchester Under-18s and Weymouth & Portland Under-18s are set to lock horns in what promises to be a keenly-contested encounter at Coburg Road.
