DORCHESTER have received a huge boost by the news that county town businessman Peter Old is to continue as the club’s main sponsor for another three seasons.

Old is chairman of Dorchesterbased Highwood, a company selling a range of top name farm machinery, grounds care equipment, equestrian products and clothing.

He is also chairman of The Watercress Company, suppliers of watercress and baby leaf salad to the major supermarkets from farms in Dorset, Hampshire, Spain and Florida.

Dorchester RFC chairman Peter Grassby has expressed the club’s gratitude to the many individuals and local businesses who continue to support them in the form of sponsorship and advertising.

“We are indebted to Highwood who will remain as our main sponsor for the next three seasons,” he said.

“Despite the hard work and dedication of the many volunteers throughout the club, the financial support we receive from sponsorship is a vital ingredient towards the survival of a small amateur sports club.

“We hope we can repay Mr Old by a positive performance on the pitch this season.”

On the field, Dorchester, eighth in Southern Counties South after four games, travel to bottom team Frome tomorrow (3pm).

Dorchester have only had one away game this season and that was one they had to concede after not being able to raise a side.

Meanwhile, Swanage & Wareham are still chasing a first win of the campaign in South West One East, and they will hope to break their duck this weekend when they go to High Wycombe.

In Dorset & Wilts Two South, Weymouth & Portland can put the disappointment off their cancelled clash with Bridport last time out by getting a positive result at North Dorset Thirds (2pm).

Paul Harding’s men have an almost unblemished record this term and sit proudly at the top of the table with 19 points from four fixtures to date.

Also in Two South, Bridport go to Ellingham & Ringwood Seconds and Dorchester Seconds host Puddletown.

Dorchester’s third XV are on the road in Dorset & Wilts Three South as they meet Swanage & Wareham Thirds.

Bridport Seconds and Weymouth & Portland Seconds entertain East Dorset Seconds and Salisbury Fourths respectively in Dorset & Wilts Four.

Of the nine fixtures in the division this season two-thirds have been forfeited by either the home or away team.
