BRIDPORT 88 FORDINGBRIDGE II 0

BRIDPORT ran riot against Dorset & Wilts Two South basement boys Fordingbridge Seconds at the Brewery Field.

The hosts scored 54 unanswered points in the first half and then a further 33 without reply after the interval to rack up their biggest win of the season to date.

Victory saw Bridport climb to fourth place in the standings with five wins from six games so far this term.

Fordingbridge are languishing at the foot of the table, level on zero points with Dorchester Seconds, and it looks like they will remain there after what can only be described as a mauling by a rampant Bridport side.

As their confidence grew in the first half the hosts put on a superb display of running and passing, with all but one back getting over the try line.

The try scorers were scrum-half Dave Cutting, centres Josh Walton and Ricky Stubbs, Richard Middleton and Mike Walton on the wings, and Nathan Herbert at full-back.

Missing out was fly-half Will Everitt, but he managed seven out of eight conversions to take the half-time score to 54-0.

One or two passes were spilled in the difficult conditions but it could hardly have been a better performance from the Blues.

Fordingbridge did mount some attacks of their own but they were well defended by Bridport and, as in recent games, the home forwards were dominant.

Bridport posted a further 34 unanswered points in the second half, with Dan Down and Daragh Mcloughlin adding their names to the scoresheet.

Stubbs and Josh Walton completed their hat-tricks and Stephen Davies was named man of the match.

For Fordingbridge, this was another heavy defeat, and their biggest of the campaign after 65-0 and 61-0 hidings against Puddletown and Bournemouth Thirds respectively.

Bridport are now only one point behind Bournemouth, four adrift of Yeovil and seven off leaders Weymouth & Portland.

This Saturday, the Blues travel to New Milton Seconds, who lie one point behind them after losing to Bournemouth at the weekend.

Unfortunately, Bridport Seconds conceded their Dorset & Wilts Four match at Ellingham & Ringwood Thirds.

Their next league game is a week on Saturday when they are due to host Salisbury Fourths.
