SKIPPER Kevin Leatham has high hopes for his Weymouth & Portland side this season – and things couldn’t be going much better at the moment.

Leatham and his charges lead Dorset & Wilts Two South with six wins from six games, while they are also through to a cup final against Pewsey Vale later this month.

With new recruits joining the Monmouth Avenue set-up, others returning to the club, and the likes of Josh Cameron stepping up to first XV rugby, Leatham’s a happy man right now.

Weymouth & Portland can make it a magnificent seven successive league victories tomorrow when they travel to Puddletown (2.15pm).

Giving his views on the campaign to date, Leatham said: “The team is getting stronger every game and we are also blooding new talent, which is great for the club.

“With Carl Neal and Simon Dean we have lots of pace out wide and that suits the way we play. We want to play an expansive game and we can with wingers like Carl and Simon.

“We’ve also got players like Josh Cameron who have come up through the age groups. He made his debut last weekend and will play again on Saturday.

“George Carter has been outstanding in the back row. He is like a machine and gets better every game.

“Ryan Lewendon has done well with Sean Murphy out and it shows we have got a lot of strength in depth.

“That’s great, especially in the back row where a few of the guys can play in different positions.

“And there are new guys turning up at training, which can only be good.”

As for tomorrow’s test, he added: “I’m looking forward to a derby and it’s nice to have two games back-to-back after a stop-start season so far.

“We are aiming to win every game this season, get promoted, and win the cup final in a couple of weeks.

“We’re looking forward to that game and the one against Yeovil a week on Saturday. It will be good to see where we are against one of the better teams in the league.”
