WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND II 31

ELLINGHAM & RINGWOOD III 0

WEYMOUTH & Portland’s Second XV are flying high at the top of the league and continued their push for promotion with a comfortable win over Ellingham & Ringwood Thirds.

Despite playing against the wind in the first half, Weymouth exerted pressure on their visitors and, eventually, Gordon Tye went over for the first unconverted try.

Ellingham restarted with a deep kick into Weymouth’s half which was caught by Ryan Lewendon, who ran from inside his own half to score under the posts. This time Khylo Farley was successful with the conversion.

The score remained 12-0 until half-time and, with the wind behind them in the second half, the home side got to work. Glen Winnard was unlucky to cross the whitewash twice, only for the ball to be held up but the Weymouth pressure continued with forwards Ben Billington and Andy Dewell both scoring their debut tries for the club. With the bonus point secured, Elliott Curley went in for the fifth try after a good run by Mike Orchard. That made the score 29-0 and up stepped Harry Baker to slot over the conversion and score his first points for the club.

The win reversed the result earlier in the season between the two sides when Weymouth & Portland lost by just two points.

n Weymouth & Portand’s first XV trip to Ellingham & R II was postponed.
