DORCHESTER II 0 WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 53

WEYMOUTH & Portland were in derby dreamland at Dorchester on Saturday, racking up 53 points without reply to secure their 14th win of the campaign in Dorset & Wilts Two South.

Ryan Lewendon, who was captain for the day in regular skipper Kevin Leatham’s absence due to the suspected broken thumb, set the ball rolling for the visitors with a penalty to put them ahead.

From there, the Monmouth Avenue outfit never looked back against the county town club’s second string.

Joel Wilson scooped a hat-trick of tries throughout the contest, Duncan Bezzant touched down twice and there were also scores for Joe Gibson, Ryan Lewendon, Elliot May.

Coach Paul Harding was also impressed by the performance of Chris Lewendon, who made his first appearance at 10 for the away side.

Giving his thoughts on the triumph, Harding told Echosport: “It was a good all-round team performance by the whole squad really.

“It was a battling first half, I don’t think we played brilliantly but defensively we were very good.

“Probably the feature of the first half for us was the strength of our scrum which was very dominant.

“It’s really good to have Tim Comben back in our front row. He has really sured it up and made a difference.”

Talking about Bezzant’s last score, Harding added: “Duncan basically rounded the whole of the defence and just outpaced them from well within our half. It was absolutely fantastic, he just backed himself and kept running round and round and outflanked everyone.”

He added: “Chris Lewendon made his debut playing 10 after a late cry off. He played really well for his first game there.”

The win ensures the Seaside club kept the pressure on leaders Yeovil, who comfortably won 62-0 at Puddletown.

Dorchester Seconds are currently ninth with five wins from 16 league fixtures.
