WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 39
SWANAGE & WAREHAM II 11
WEYMOUTH & Portland had to come from behind as they dispatched Swanage & Wareham 39-11 at Monmouth Avenue.
The Swans opened the scoring with a 13th-minute penalty, but as soon as skipper Ryan Lewendon slotted his second successful penalty kick in the 23rd minute of the game to put his team in front, they led until the final whistle.
Going into the break 18-3 to the good, courtesy of Lewendon’s pair of penalties to which he added a try with number eight Sean Murphy also touching down for the Seasiders, the result was far from decided as the Swans still posed a threat particularly with their strong pack.
However, as the contest progressed and the visitors tired, Weymouth & Portland took control and raced in with three more tries, a second from Lewendon and one apiece from winger Norton Rodgers and centre Joel Wilson.
Lewendon converted all three touchdowns, with Swanage & Wareham also crossing for a try and kicking a second penalty.
This result sees the Seasiders move up into fourth place in the league table.
Team manager Vaughan Carter said: “We are moving in the right direction.
“Although the penalty count against us is still too high, it was a vast improvement on last week and now we must focus on our Dorset & Wilts Vase final at Warminster against Swindon College Old Boys this Saturday.”
