BOURNEMOUTH III 5
WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 30
WEYMOUTH & Portland went back into fifth spot in Dorset & Wilts One South, with a victory at Bournemouth Thirds.
Despite some hiccups for the Seasiders in their journey across the county at the weekend, they managed to prevail and leapfrog the Lions in the league table.
Bryn Llewellyn, JT Moncher, Carl Neal and James Davis all scored tries for the Monmouth Avenue outfit, with Ryan Lewendon adding two penalties and two conversions.
First-team manager Vaughan Carter said: “To be honest, when we kicked off with 15 players and no replacements, as a car travelling with three of the squad had been delayed near Dorchester, I thought ‘here we go again, a scratch side out and another defeat’, but how wrong was I.
“The lads produced some of the best rugby we have played all season, former Wimbledon prop Ben Davis made his debut for us and now I think we have found another leader in the pack.”
He added: “Also, 18-year-old James Davis started at hooker then moved to scrum-half when the latecomers arrived and he performed exceptionally well in both positions.
“Considering the situation we found ourselves in, the team gelled from the kick off and we controlled the game for most of the 80 minutes. Now I hope we have turned the corner and can tally up some more wins.”
