LYTCHETT MINSTER 12

WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND 24

WEYMOUTH & Portland were made to come from behind to seal a worthy victory against a Lytchett Minster side who had visibly improved since their visit to Monmouth Avenue earlier in the season, writes Idris Martin.

The Seasiders had trailed by 12 points to seven at the break with wing Bryn Llewellyn crossing for a try converted by skipper Ryan Lewendon in the opening period.

After the break, centre Ian Dixon and full-back Carl Neal touched down for the visitors with Lewendon converting both tries and also adding a penalty to seal the victory.

Team manager Vaughan Carter said: “With some of our lads on a jolly at Twickenham, I doubted that we would be able to put out a reasonable side, but, in the end, we had enough quality in the squad to be able to do just that.

“Although it took a few minutes for the team to settle, we did deserve the win despite conceding an early try.”

He added: “However, we still have to improve our discipline and play the game to the referee’s interpretation of the laws.

“Again we had two players despatched to the sin bin for 10 minutes each and there is no point whingeing to the officials when decisions don’t go your way, so that has to stop.

“Apart from that we did play well and, although it was sometimes frustrating to stand on the touchline and watch the lads give away too many penalties, they did say that they enjoyed playing.”
