THERE were more caps for Weymouth’s ladies in the latest Twin Counties fixture.

The third game of the season for Dorset & Wilts Ladies had to be hastily re-arranged as Cornwall were unable to play at the Bournemouth Festival.

However, a strong Barbarians side was put together from visitors to the festival and Weymouth’s Lauren Leatherland gained her first ladies’ cap for the Twin Counties.

Leatherland was unable to play in the two previous games as she was representing South West England at under-18 Level.

Girls and ladies’ rugby is gaining in popularity with England defending the Ladies’ World Cup in August, but more recruits are needed at Weymouth and there is an ideal opportunity to learn the basics of rugby this summer by attending the O2 Touch Rugby sessions at Monmouth Avenue on Monday evenings (6.30pm).

A spokesperson for the club said: “No matter what age all will be welcome and it is also a good enjoyable way of keeping fit.

“There is no need for any previous experience as there is no tackling, kicking, scrummaging or line-outs, just passing and running, it couldn’t be simpler.”
