DORCHESTER A 38
WHEATSHEAF CABIN 12
DORCHESTER'S A XV took centre stage again with a 38-12 Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts Two South victory against Wheatsheaf Cabin Boys.
Following a strong win away at Salisbury, Rob Parker wanted to keep the momentum up and fielded a strong side. However the condition of the pitch looked like it may not help a running game and both sides suffered from handling errors.
The visitors were first to get on the scoresheet. Following a scrum, the ball was sent out wide for the winger to run it in.
Dorchester hit back quickly with Alex Peel, coming back from concussion, making a fine break and Jamie Morgan finishing the move.
Tom Gower then charged down a rushed kick by the visitors and put Dorchester into a lead they would not relinquish, although Wheatsheaf did cross the Dorchester line once more.
One of Dorchester’s newest recruits, Mark Picton, lived up to his nickname 'The Tank' when he drove over the line taking three of the visiting players with him in the second half.
The victory leaves Dorchester looking strong in fifth spot in the league table.
Rich Bament, part of Dorchester’s coaching team, commented after he was a little frustrated at times with some of the handling errors and missed chances, but ultimately pleased with the win.
The Gladiators third XV lost 31-14 against a strong North Dorset side.
Elsewhere, Dorchester, Weymouth & Portland Ladies side experienced an entertaining and open high-scoring game, eventually losing 35-45.
Had the home side taken all their chances kicking it would have been a totally different score line. Coach Sam Wilson was rightly proud of her team’s performance and their continuing improvement. The team sit mid table with their next game away at Basingstoke.
Elsewhere, Dorchester’s Colts took the long trip to Swindon but came away 54-0 winners with a fantastic team performance.
Meanwhile, the under-13s overcame Yeovil and the under-16s remain unbeaten after their win over Chippenham.
