AFTER a welcome weekend break for Easter, Dorchester’s first XV look to tie up the title away at Oakmeadians tomorrow in their Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts One South clash.

With a largely unchanged side to that which beat Wimborne A XV in their last league outing, Tom Bradbury steps back in at scrum-half, with Jake Bosher as cover on the bench.

Both George Foot and Alex Peel are unavailable so Dave Clark moves across to fly-half. James Baker will look to continue his try scoring form on the wing, as will Cameron Wills who once again starts in the back row.

With an 11-point lead at the top of the table and a maximum of 15 points left this season, Dorchester need to put a five-point win on the board to achieve both the league title and promotion to Southern Counties South.

Having returned from holiday, coach Ben Parker knows the title is within the squad’s grasp and has targeted this as the weekend to settle the league.

Training this week has been strong, and with footage of the games he missed available, Parker has reviewed this and says he has a clear view of what is required this weekend. He will focus on the team’s strengths and game planning.

After selection, he commented: “We are under no illusions Oakmeadians will want to deny us picking up the title this weekend, and we expect a strong side for this encounter. The lads are aware of Dorset Dockers’ points difference and know we need a strong five-point win to achieve our goal of the title and promotion.”

Other games for the seniors this weekend are Dorchester’s A XV at home to Oakmeadians Seconds and the 3rd XV Gladiators are also at home to Wimborne Thirds. The A XV still have third place in the league in their sights, so are looking for a bonus point win this weekend to set up a big game against Salisbury next weekend for that potential third spot. Both games kick off at 3pm.

Dorchester’s under-14s kick the weekend off with a training game beginning at 7.30pm tonight in a friendly against Bridport.

The remaining sides in the youth section are in action on Sunday with the under-13s entertaining Tor, the under-14s taking on Oakmeadians in the Dorset & Wilts Cup and the under-15s welcoming Taunton. On Sunday afternoon the Colts lock horns with Walcot (2pm).

Elsewhere in Dorset and Wilts One South, Weymouth and Portland travel to North Dorset Seconds aiming to leap off the foot of the table, while Bridport visit Salisbury Seconds.
