WEYMOUTH 11 OAKMEADIANS II 12

WEYMOUTH slumped to a second successive defeat as they suffered an agonising 12-11 reverse at the hands of Oakmeadians Seconds.

The loss at Wey Valley School sees the Seasiders slip to sixth in Dorset & Wilts One South, losing ground on title rivals Bridport who currently lead the way following their 74-3 hammering of Puddletown.

Weymouth skipper Mark Sample was suitably unimpressed with his side’s display. He said: “I didn’t think either side performed particularly well. We conceded two soft tries by our standards and left it too late to get back into the game.

“In reality they were feeding off our mistakes. Throughout the game I thought we kicked far too much ball away and the only time we didn’t we scored a try.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t kick the conversion but even if we had I don’t think we would have deserved to win the game.

“The boys had a good talking to afterwards by our player-coach Anthony Cowburn and hopefully the guys will take it on board.

“The only positive is that Craig Gelderd is in the form of his life, it’s a shame that the rest of us have been letting him down.”

Next up for Weymouth is a trip to Wimborne Seconds on Saturday.
