Seasiders’ slide arrested at Wimborne

Wimborne SECONDS 12 WEYMOUTH 15

WEYMOUTH stopped the rot of two successive defeats with a hard-earned victory at Wimborne Seconds.

The Seasiders entered the Dorset & Wilts One South clash on the back of two losses but they arrested the dip in form with a “much-improved” display.

Will Quick and Adam Hoxey both ran in tries for the visitors while Tim Peplow added one conversion and a single penalty.

Skipper Mark Sample said: “It was a much-improved performance from the previous two weeks.

“The first half was pretty tight, we had the majority of possession but not much to show for it in terms of points.

“The first half ended with us 3-0 in front courtesy of Tim Peplow’s penalty.

“They came at us straight away in the second half and our defence was pretty strong, but for a few sloppy minutes in which they managed to score under the posts.

“However, soon after, some brilliant play from Dave Allan, in which he pretty much took on the entire Wimborne team on his own, resulted in Will Quick scoring an unconverted try.

“Good pressure from George Carter allowed Adam Hoxey to score and Tim kicked the conversion this time.

“They scored an unconverted try with about two minutes to go but we were strong enough to see the game out.

“There are still areas we need to work on but we’ve got something to build on. I must add that Joe Gibson made his first start for us and was excellent on the day.”

Attention now turns to Saturday’s Southern Counties Cup trip to Westbury.
