BRIDPORT 43 IVEL BARBARIANS 14
BRIDPORT ran in six tries to earn a “cracking” win against Ivel Barbarians.
Nathan Herbert, Marcus Colborne, Mike Pibworth, Harry Clark, Pete Phillips and Tim Edwards all crossed the whitewash at Brewery Field, with Luke King kicking three penalties and two conversions, as the Blues leapfrogged their opponents in the Dorset & Wilts One South table.
Head coach Mark Botten, whose side now sit sixth, said: “The game plan we have been trying to play to all season came to fruition in that we won good clean ball and made plenty of chances.
“We had to have a bit of a reshuffle and bring players in from the seconds but everyone stepped up to the mark, we threw the ball around well and scored six tries, which was good.
“They turned up with a bigger pack so I told the players that we needed to keep the ball away from the contact area to stop them slowing things down.
“We did that well, the guys dug in hard and we managed to reverse the result from when we went to their place.
“We had five or six players aged 18 or under but they gelled well with the older guys and it was a cracking result.
“We thought their tails would be up after drawing with Swanage the previous week and I thought they would come at us but, dare I say, I was a bit disappointed with them.
“We defended well and tackled when we had to, and when we got the ball we threw it out wide and they did not have an answer for it.”
Next up for Bridport is a tough trip to second-placed Warminster this Saturday.
