WEYMOUTH 51 ELLINGHAM & RINGWOOD II 12
WEYMOUTH continued their push for the Dorset & Wilts One South title with a comprehensive victory over basement boys Ellingham & Ringwood Seconds.
The hosts ran in eight tries at Monmouth Avenue as Paul Harding’s men chalked up their fifth successive win in all competitions without breaking sweat.
Joel Wilson led the way with two tries, while Max Baudouin, Mike Robinson, Sean Murphy, Nick Sheppard, Craig Gelderd and the returning Harry Charles also touched down.
The home tally was completed by four conversions and one penalty – all from the boot of Sheppard.
Weymouth’s head coach said: “It was comfortable and we scored some really good tries.
“We played a little bit within ourselves and it wasn’t our strongest performance of the season, but with the massive amount of changes we had to make it was a pleasing result.
“I don’t think we played with the same intensity that was required in other games. Ellingham weren’t particularly strong but they battled hard and didn’t just hand us the win.
“The most pleasing thing for us is that we didn’t pick up any more injuries.
“There were though some really outstanding performances from prop Tim Comben and flanker Sean Murphy. Sean has risen from the thirds to the seconds and we had an opportunity to play him on Saturday and I thought he was excellent.”
The league leaders will no doubt face a much sterner test of their credentials when they visit third-placed Swanage & Wareham Seconds this Saturday.
