WEYMOUTH Ladies took on their Ivel counterparts in the first ladies’ match at Monmouth Avenue since 2001.
The Weymouth team was reformed just six months ago, with a number of players having never played before.
But in their first competitive fixture, the hosts put up a brave fight.
Ivel were immediately on the front foot, however, playing a fast and fluent game.
After a nervous start, Weymouth began to settle and were soon asking questions of their opponents.
Ivel’s fitness eventually prevailed and they came out on top.
Coach Nathan Parker said: “All of the coaches are extremely proud of every single one of the players.”
Weymouth Ladies are in action again this Sunday as they host Stothert & Pitt (2pm).
Anybody interested in joining the team can go along to training on Wednesday evenings (6.30-8pm) and Sunday afternoons (12.30-2pm) or give Parker a call on 07818 055385.
Players of the Match: Liz Bell and Dianna Minardi
