SWANAGE & WAREHAM II 12 WEYMOUTH 18

WEYMOUTH captain Tony Worle labelled his side's victory over runaway leaders Swanage & Wareham II as the best performance he has seen at the club.

The Seasiders became the first team to beat the Swans this season, and the victory at Bestwall serves as a major boost in Weymouth's hopes of promotion from Dorset & Wilts One South.

Worle, whose side sit third in the table, said: "It was a phenomenal game, the best performance I've seen since I joined, our tackling was immense. James Hughes and Will Hughes deserve a lot of credit as they were putting in some big hits for us.

"It's a fantastic win and hopefully it will provide some daylight in the fight for third spot. We need to maintain a consistent run until the end of the season to get that third place finish and a possible promotion.

"It was a massive effort from everyone, including Paul Tobut and Lian Berry who both had excellent games."

It was the hosts though who opened the afternoon's scoring with a converted try. A chipped ball forward was collected and touched down before the successful kick made it 7-0 in the Swans' favour.

However, the advantage was cut to two points as Weymouth hit back, Andy Wood crossing the whitewash for an unconverted score.

The visitors then took advantage with Wood grabbing his second try, scooping up the spilt ball to win the race to the line. Ryan Lewendon stepped up to add the extras and give the Seasiders a 12-7 lead before extending their advantage with a penalty.

Despite spending the majority of the second period encamped in the home side's half, Weymouth were only able to add a further penalty from Lewendon after Swanage had reduced the arrears with an unconverted try.
