Dorset & Wilts Vase Semi-final
TROWBRIDGE 46 BRIDPORT 0
BRIDPORT were knocked out of the Dorset & Wilts Vase after being comprehensively beaten by Trowbridge at the semi-final stage.
The Wiltshire club tops the Southern Counties South league, and they emphatically disposed of Bridport, although boss Paul Ninnim claimed his team's lack of fortune inflated the score-line and flattered the hosts.
He said: "We missed an early penalty, which could have got us going but it wasn't our day at all."
Bridport entered the game with confidence after last week's league victory over Westbury, but soon found their presumption that Trowbridge would be stiff opposition to be correct.
The hosts only led by 13-0 at half-time, which gave the visitors hope that an improved second half performance could cause an upset.
However, despite the determined efforts of the visitors, the home side asserted their superiority and scored consistently to take the game away from Bridport.
Boss Ninnim chanced his arm by throwing on all his remaining substitutes to try and add some vitality and fresh impetus, but this proved futile as Trowbridge added more points to claim a place in the final.
And to compound Bridport's misery, number eight Jack Edwards tore his hamstring to leave the beleaguered visitors with only 14 men on the pitch for the final 15 minutes of the tie.
