DORCHESTER crashed to the bottom of Southern Counties South after a late try condemned them to defeat at fellow strugglers Devizes.
The county town side were once again unable to close out a game despite putting themselves in a winning position.
Playing up the slope, and into the wind, the visitors more than held their own for 30 minutes. But it was Devizes who opened the scoring with a penalty before Dorchester completed a concerted attack when Rich Bament forced his way over by the posts.

John Firkin added the conversion and Dorchester were looking comfortable.
The hosts reduced the deficit to a point when they added a second penalty but rarely threatened the visiting line.
Bament was then sent to the sin-bin for the remainder of the first half and Devizes took full advantage when their centre scored under the posts. The conversion was missed but the home side now held a four-point lead.
Dorchester had both the wind and the slope in their favour for the second period but were unable to use it to full effect, the home forwards dominating possession for the entire half.
Dorchester did manage to find a way through, via penalty kicks. The first of three efforts came back off an upright before the next two were successfully dispatched by Firkin to hand the county town side a narrow lead with just 15 minutes to go.
The home side did not panic and continued to play their game. Dorchester on the other hand lost their composure, getting sucked into a niggly forward battle and conceding needless penalties.
And the pressure eventually told as Devizes scored their second try, a carbon-copy of the first.
Chris Burton's men did have five minutes in which to save the game, but were unable to retain possession for long enough to seriously threaten the hosts.
One point now separates the bottom three and the significance of Saturday's home game with Corsham takes greater emphasis than ever.
