Monmouth battle for Lanehouse Trophy
BROKEN HAND: Weymouth's Ian Tibble, right
BROKEN HAND: Weymouth's Ian Tibble, right

WEYMOUTH and Bridport do battle at Monmouth Avenue tomorrow for the Lanehouse Trophy (2.30pm).

The Blues hold the title and a draw will suffice for them to retain the trophy for another year, but home skipper Tony Worle is keen to steal the prize away from their Dorset & Wilts One South rivals.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to this one. It will be a nice break from the league but we are definitely looking to win it.

"We play Bridport next month in the league and that match will most probably decide who finishes third and who may earn possible promotion.

"So more than anything the Lanehouse Trophy game will be a pointer as to who is going to gain the upper hand for that match."

The Seasiders lost Ian Tibble to a broken hand in last week's 17-11 defeat of Puddletown so he is certain to miss out, but Anthony Cowburn is back available and Richard Barclay is also in contention following a long lay-off with a shoulder injury.

Dorchester were due to take on Oakmeadians in the semi-final of the Dorset & Wilts Vase tomorrow but instead are unable to a raise a side.

The county town outfit have therefore been forced to withdraw from the competition, allowing Oakmeadians a straight passage to the final.

Dorchester are not the only side to have conceded matches in the Vase, and it is something which saddens coach Chris Burton.

He said: "We had to pull out because of injuries and unavailabilities. I think when you look at the amount of teams who do withdraw from the competition it shows just how much pressure there is on the league games.

"Clubs don't hold the cup competitions in high regard, which is a shame."

Meanwhile Swanage & Ware-ham are in semi-final action though as they travel to Wootton Bassett in the Dorset & Wilts Cup (3pm). Puddletown though, are without a game this weekend.
