COUNTY TOWN SURGE: Sam Prior evades a Wootton tackle
DORCHESTER are running out of games in which to save their skin after losing 41-8 at home to title-chasing Wootton Bassett.
Chris Burton's men have just two games left to play and although sitting bottom of Southern Counties South are only two points from certain safety following defeats for their relegation rivals.
Burton said: "We certainly haven't given up hope yet. We played well but were let down by some poor tackling which has been the story of our season.
"We've got two games left against Trowbridge and Oakmedians. Although Trowbridge will be an uphill battle we drew with them earlier in the season so you never know. The main target is the home game with Oakmedians."
Second-placed Wootton were the visitors to Coburg Road and clearly showed the difference between a settled side playing with confidence and a struggling side playing with little or no confidence.
Dorchester, particularly up front, competed well for long periods of the game in both scrummage and line-out, producing a reasonable amount of good ball in the loose. But the difference lay in what the two sides did with the ball they won.

The visitors had more pacey and direct runners as well as the confidence to use those runners from anywhere on the pitch. The county town midfield, playing together for the first time, were more tentative and nowhere near as well organised.
The first half delivered four tries
for the visitors, one of which was converted. Dorchester replied with a penalty from John Firkin and a try for winger James Baker, who showed a real turn of pace to beat the Bassett cover on the outside.
Three more tries and two conversions were added in the second period by Wootton but the hosts never gave up and, despite being reduced to 13 men for the final few minutes, defended their line spiritedly and kept the score at a respectable level.
