Play-offs the target in Brewery showdown
CHALLENGE: Tony Worle
CHALLENGE: Tony Worle

WEYMOUTH take on Bridport at the Brewery Ground tomorrow (3pm) with both sides searching for promotion via the play-offs.

The Seasiders currently hold the coveted third place in Dorset & Wilts One South but only lead the Blues by virtue of a superior points difference.

Weymouth skipper Tony Worle is looking forward to the crucial clash.

He said: "Everything we want to achieve this year boils down to this game. There's an awful lot riding on it but that is the reason we play rugby - to play in games like this one.

"We've got a strong side so there are no excuses on that front. If we play to our potential we will win but if we have a bad day then it will come down to which side wants it most."

Mark Sample is the only absentee for Weymouth but Anthony Cowburn returns to fill the void.

Bridport coach Paul Ninnim is confident his players can continue their sparkling form - which has seen them record four consecutive victories.

He said: It certainly is a big game for us, and we're full of confidence after our good run of results and know we can win it,'' he said.

It won't be the prettiest of games, but the key for us is to do well up front and win the ball.

The Wimborne game the week after, if we do win tomorrow, will be important too, as they're more than capable of springing a surprise.'' Dorchester's fight against relegation from Southern Counties South continues with a tough trip to leaders Trowbridge tomorrow (3pm).

With just two games to go, the county town side are only two points behind fourth from bottom Sherborne despite the fact they haven't won since January.

Dorchester defied the odds to pick up a point when the two sides last met and will need a similar performance in this their penultimate fixture of the season.

Coach Chris Burton said: "This game won't determine our fate, we've still got a home game against Oakmedians to come. In a way it's nice that there is no pressure on us because people expect us to lose this game.

"I'm confident our pack will hold its own, so the game will be won or lost in the backs."

Burton though, will be without leading point scorer John Firkin who is unavailable, as are Dafydd Wright and Rob Hodges.

In South West Two East, second plays first as Swanage & Wareham travel to Chippenham tomorrow (3pm) knowing that defeat will end their title chances while victory will take them to within a point of the leaders with just one game to follow.

Puddletown welcome Salisbury II to Bestwall tomorrow (3pm) aiming to maintain their hold on seventh spot in Dorset & Wilts One South.

The visitors are unable to catch table- topping Swanage & Wareham II and will finish the season as runners-up while the Villagers are locked on 12 points with North Dorset II who play Wimborne II this weekend.
