Dorchester’s D-day in fight to avoid relegation

DORCHESTER enter the last-chance saloon in their fight against relegation tomorrow when Oakmeadians visit Coburg Road (3pm).

The county town side occupy bottom spot in Southern Counties South but victory tomorrow, together with other results going their way, could yet see them climb to safety on the final day of the season.

Coach Chris Burton said: "We could win the game if we put everything together and perform to our potential - one big performance is needed.

"This is our last straw and it's a win-or-bust situation. However, it's not a case of win the game and we stay up because results in other games matter too. Our match is in our own hands and we must focus on that."

Burton is expected to be boosted by the return of influential skipper Rich Bament, whose been sidelined with a knee injury.

Weymouth will be praying for a Bridport slip up tomorrow in the hope of stealing third spot in Dorset & Wilts One South.

The Seasiders take on basement boys Blandford at Monmouth Avenue (3pm) where victory is a must for them to have any chance of making the play-offs.

But for that to happen the Blues, who beat Weymouth 19-17 last week, must suffer defeat at Wimborne II in the final round of fixtures.

And captain Tony Worle isn't expecting any favours.

He said: "It's finished basically because Bridport will win at Wimborne. We'll just go into the game looking to win and finish the season with a good performance."

Mark Sample returns to the home line-up after missing last Saturday's disappointing defeat.

Meanwhile, elated Bridport boss Paul Ninnim is calling on his triumphant players to "approach in the right way" tomorrow's do-or-die clash at Wimborne II.

He said: "If we approach it in the right way we should win it. I'm confident that we can do the job properly and promotion is realistic for us now so we don't want to fall at the final hurdle."

Puddletown complete their Dorset & Wilts One South campaign tomorrow with a trip to Frome II where success for the Villagers will definitely see them maintain seventh spot.

Swanage & Wareham's final South West Two East fixture is a home clash with Walcot tomorrow (3pm).

The Swans would have to beat Walcot, hope Salisbury lose at home to Henley Wanderers and overturn a 142 points difference to have any chance of finishing second.
