THE seventh Weymouth Beach Tag Rugby Festival has been hailed a great success after a weekend of top action on Weymouth Sands.
Thirteen teams braved the wet weather and took part in the event which was hosted by Weymouth Rugby Club.
Purple Sharks (Weymouth) were crowned champions after narrowly beating Valley Commandos (Ebbw Vale).
Tom's Tornados (Weymouth) took the Plate against RTB Steelers (Ebbw Vale) and Double O Podge (Oakmeadians) beat another Weymouth club side, Hoxly Gone To Get His Van, in the bowl competition.
Organiser Glyn Arnold said: "The weekend went very well and the poor weather on Saturday didn't spoil the event.
"There was some very young players taking part and with the help of our coaches their standard improved markedly over the two days.

"This tournament will hopefully be the catalyst for our weekly beach tag rugby sessions which are held every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm-8pm, opposite Alexandra Gardens. They are open to everyone, so just come along and enjoy the fun."
