WEYMOUTH Wildcats will not return to their original track site on Radipole Lane, a statement from the club has revealed.

The Wildcats last turned out at their previous home track around five years ago before they closed and a group headed up by four Wildcats’ supporters are keen to relaunch the Weymouth club within the town.

But it seems as if the group will have to look elsewhere for a venue in the future, after talks have seemingly broken down with the landlord of the Wildcats’ former site over a temporary return.

The Wildcats’ former home is also already set to accommodate housing should Weymouth Football Club secure their site for a new ground in the future.

In a statement given to Echosport this evening, the Wildcats said: “The efforts of the team at Weymouth Speedway have been focused on getting speedway back in the town and, for the last few months we have been speaking to the landlord of the old stadium with regards to us re-using the site for two years, until April 2018.

“Things were looking extremely positive for the return of speedway at the stadium, planning permission pending.

“This has obviously come as a shock to us but one which we will overcome and we are more determined to bring speedway back to the area. We will now start looking around for a suitable location for a track to go.”

The Wildcats still have four away meetings scheduled, the first of which is on the Isle of Wight in a four-team tournament on April 14.

They are still asking and actively looking for sponsors for the meetings, so if anyone would like to help, please contact the club via their Facebook page or by emailing weymouthwildcats@mail.com
