WILDCATS’ co-promoter James Tresadern admitted everybody connected to the club “is still on cloud nine” at present, having secured their first meeting win on their return to the track this summer.

Tresadern was stepping in alongside fellow promoter Martin Peters to manage the Weymouth side in Somerset in the absence of regular boss Jamie Dixon, who was on holiday.

And the avid Wildcats’ supporter had one of the best viewing points to witness his side make history in recording a 5-1 in the dramatic sixth heat to witness “something special” from his charges.

“I was fortunate enough to be stood on the centre green because after Craig (Nethercott) went down in the fifth heat, I just stayed there,” he told Echosport when reflecting after the memorable development challenge meeting.

“I was just stood there and just could not believe what I was seeing. I was really elated.

“The guys were absolutely brilliant, you just couldn’t fault it. They just kept on plugging through.

“The guys came together after the last heat and were hugging, it meant a lot to them as well.

“It was something special.”

And after Craig Nethercott had been excluded in the penultimate heat, Tresadern was keen to praise skipper George Piper for his heroics in claiming the heat victory and keeping the overall score level going into the climax of the contest.

“It was up to George to keep things going and minimise the damage,” a delighted Tresadern explained.

“If they had a 5-1 there we would have been gutted.

“He missed the start but then he took off.

“He said afterwards there was no room down the back straight, he literally shut his eyes and went for it and got in front.”

He added: “With Martin and I there, if there had been a little bar in the corner of the pits we’d have been drinking merrily.

“Everybody is still on cloud nine at the minute.

“It means so much to the club that we got the win and, hopefully, we can keep going forward now.”
