WEYMOUTH speedway talent Sam Peters put in another improved display during the fourth round of the British Youth Championships on Sunday at Rye House.

Peters, 13, scored three points from four races, adding to his tally of seven from the previous two rounds.

His father Martin, co-promoter of Weymouth Wildcats, is happy with his rate of improvement and says there are still many areas to work on.

He told Echosport: “He’s still got to learn a little bit and keep going as fast as he can. He was up against some of the faster lads in his class. Overall he did okay and definitely got better as the day went on.”

Martin feels that one of the biggest targets for Sam is to carry more speed into each turn.

“Obviously he’s said he wants to score as many points as he can. His starts were good again and he’s sliding the bike more in the corners.

“He just needs to carry a bit more speed into the corners to make it easier to slide, but he is improving each time he rides,” he said.

“It’s just down having the confidence to go that bit faster each time and not get into a comfort zone of just shutting the throttle off at a certain point.”

Martin also had some words of advice for his son ahead of the next round at Leicester in July.

“(He needs to) keep riding as he is. He can keep going quicker and quicker and get closer to the faster lads, who have been riding twice a week. It’s a bit easier for the northern lads because they have got more opportunities to get out there,” he added.
