WEYMOUTH Wildcats co-promoter Martin Peters admitted raising two sides for two consecutive meetings “took a while” as the club prepares for tests against Plymouth and Reading.

Wildcats face Plymouth on Friday evening for a home Southern Development League fixture, before travelling to Eastbourne to face Reading in the same competition a day later.

Peters told Echosport he feels the club stands a better chance of victory in the first fixture.

He said: “I think we might have more of a chance with the Plymouth meeting than with Reading.

“In terms of teams we might be slightly stronger on the Friday than the Saturday because Alex Spooner always rides in the national league meetings, as does Paul Bowen.

“We’re looking forward to it. It’s good to have James Jessop. He’s the one that the meeting is actually aimed at, whereas the rest are using it to get their confidence up.”

For the Reading meet, Peters is expecting a much tougher test after his recruitment issues.

“It took a while but we’ve finally got there. Reading are always pretty strong and their main aim is to win the league.

“They’ve got Dan Gilkes, he’s probably the best rider for his age and he’s meant to be in the national league. It’s going to be really hard,” he said.
