McKinna returns

ADAM McKinna will once more don the Wildcats’ race jacket as he fills in for the injured Byron Bekker.

Weymouth’s regular number one sustained a broken collarbone and knuckle in Friday night’s 52-39 National League defeat against Newport.

Ex-Cat Luke Priest filled the void for Sunday’s double-header at Buxton, in which the Hitmen twice came out on top, but Premier League ace McKinna is the man to replace the South African speedster in tonight’s trip to the Isle of Wight (7.30pm).

And team manager Phil Bartlett is delighted to welcome back the Newcastle Diamonds asset following a successful three-week stint at Weymouth that ended earlier this month.

He said: “Adam will come in at number one tonight and that will be a massive boost for us with him now riding again in the Premier League.

“We did well in the second meeting against Buxton and we kept it fairly tight for a while. Hopefully we can do that again tonight and hopefully Adam will make the difference.”

Karl Mason missed Sunday’s double outing through illness and is doubtful for this evening’s National Trophy encounter with the Islanders.

Should he remain stricken, the Cats will use rider replacement in his absence.

Looking ahead to tonight’s clash, Bartlett added: “Any away meeting is difficult so we will just try and do the best we can.”

Wildcats: 1 McKinna, 2 Halsey, 3 Brown, 4 Mason or R/R, 5 Cockle, 6 Andrews, 7 Cottham.

Hopefully the Cats will be in with a chance here and can stop the rot. I do think Byron is going to be hard to replace but the recent experience at Premier level should have been good for Adam but not sure I would go as far as calling him an "ace"! I fear a loss tonight and that will be the end of any Trophy aspriations and the end to a so far woeful season. Come on Cats you CAN do it!!
