TERRY Day has not ruled out a return to Weymouth next year, providing the Wildcats remain in existence.

The Wessex Raceway favourite returned to the saddle in a practice session last Friday, more than four months after colliding with then team-mate Danny Stoneman in a horrific crash.

Day sustained severe concussion following the smash and the Wey-line Wildcats have struggled in his absence.

The Radipole Lane outfit finished bottom of the pile in this season’s National League and close their unsuccessful National Trophy campaign with a trip to the Newport Hornets this Sunday (2.30pm).

The club is currently up for sale with chairman Phil Bartlett insisting the Wildcats will fold unless a new buyer can be found.

Day hopes the club can survive, as he is keen to return to the Wessex shale.

The 25-year-old said: “I would like to come back to Weymouth as I was getting to the point where nobody could touch me round the track.

“It all depends on whether the club is actually running next year.”

Reflecting on his comeback ride last week, Day added: “I didn’t feel 100 per cent because obviously I’m lacking in race fitness.

“It’s been a long time since I was last on a bike but it felt good to be back out there again and show that I can still do it – confidence is definitely not an issue.”

The Wildcats host a ‘farewell’ individual meeting tomorrow night potentially the last ever in the town –but Day will not be taking part.

He said: “It’s too soon as I’m not 100 per cent and my fitness is not good enough to go up against the other guys. I will though be in the pits helping Jay Herne.

“This year is over for me in terms of racing but I will do some riding over the winter and hopefully come back next year.”

And it appears the effects of the May 28 crash are yet to subside.

Day added: “I’m still not sleeping particularly well and I have to see a neurologist in November. I can’t remember anything about the crash, only that it took a lot out of me.

“I’ve seen the crash on the Internet and looking at how I was, I was very lucky that the ambulance crew knew what they were doing.

“It’s unfortunate it happened when it did because I was getting phone calls from Premier League teams to guest ride. However, that’s speedway and I was just unlucky.”
