WEYMOUTH Wildcats could be back on track next season competing in challenge meetings.

Cats’ press officer Tim Allan, after Weymouth were beaten by Exeter Falcons 22-14 in a six-heat contest at Somerset Speedway’s Oak Tree Arena, said: “For this year that is probably it as far as the Wildcats go.

“However, if everything fits into place we will be looking at full seven-man team challenge fixtures at the start of next season.

“This depends upon the outcome of the National League AGM and the make-up of the league. It’s something that we will just have to wait and see what happens.”

“The future looks much more positive, the number of phone calls and emails of support has been fantastic.

“The aim is to keep the name of the Wildcats in the spotlight while helping young riders gain valuable track time which in turn helps put them in the spotlight.

“Hopefully, one day in the not too distant future, Weymouth supporters will be able to cheer on the Wildcats on home shale.

“We will keep on working behind the scenes to try and make this dream become reality.”

The Cats returned to the track on Friday night following Somerset’s Premier League fixture against Glasgow.

Allan added: “The meeting was rushed through with the curfew time fast approaching, all the lads deserve thanks for turning up and giving it a real go.

“A big thank you goes to Matt Bates for organising the evening and to Somerset speedway for allowing the track time, which the lads really appreciate.”
