OPENING batsman Jim Ryall led from the front as Weymouth got their Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League campaign off to a fantastic start at Redlands.

The club stalwart smacked a marvellous 74 and then produced two excellent stumpings in a man-of-the-match display that was backed up by a solid team performance.

Seasiders' skipper Dean Janaway said: "We are absolutely delighted. To play like that and get the full 25 points is just brilliant and a great team effort.

"At the start we struggled a bit on a seaming track. We were on 46-3 at one stage but Jim batted superbly and along with Tom England and Ben Doidge helped us reach 246 which was an excellent total.

"David Trotter then took 3-20 to knock over their top order before Rob Nobbs and Michael Pearce also got a few wickets between them.

"That left them really struggling and Laurie Whyte took 4-23 to finish them off.

"We bowled and fielded superbly, we took some good catches and Jim pulled off two fine stumpings so it is a great start for us."

Wayfarers won the toss and when Stammas (1-71) clean bowled Janaway for a duck the Seasiders instantly had their backs against the wall.

Paul Payne holed out to Wade off Dunham (4-38) for just six and debutant Andy Bray did not fare any better.

The former Somerset Under-19 player lasted only 11 minutes at the crease due to Dunham's blinder that beat the left-hander all ends up and clattered the stumps.

It was clear Ryall desperately needed a partner to get his side's innings back on track and next man in England produced the goods.

The pair put on 70 for the fourth wicket and looked well set but then Rogers caught Ryall off Ridley (1-23) with the score on 116, a breakthrough that again asked uestions of the home side.

Tom Steadman did not have the answer, falling for a duck, but Doidge did.

The former Portland player helped move the tally on to 208 with 48 off 48 balls despite Rogers stumping England for 64.

Pearce (13) and Whyte (10) enjoyed brief cameos at the end of the innings and at tea it was clear the visitors had a mountain to climb.

Their reply did not get off to a clever start as Rayner (0) was clean bowled by Trotter, who then followed up by trapping fellow opener M Stacey (5) leg before.

That left Wayfarers on 9-2 and in deep trouble so when Snook (5) fell to Nobbs (1-16) the writing was clearly on the wall.

Ridley (11), P Stacey (12), Dunham (20), Thake (14), Tidball (14) and Rogers (10) all got starts but they were unable to build any sustained resistance due to Weymouth's excellent bowling and fielding.

Whyte then wrapped things up with a quartet of wickets including dishing out two ducks to Wade and Stammas.
