Lewis leads the way
SILVER MEDAL: James Ross
SILVER MEDAL: James Ross

A TWELVE strong squad of Warriors flew the flag for West Dorset at the Havant and Water-looville Open Meet where they captured six medals and earned 21 personal best times.

Fifteen-year-old Tom Lewis excelled by achieving a personal best and winning gold in the 100m freestyle and silver in the 100m backstroke and breaststroke, while James Ross, 11, also did well earning a silver medal and a pb for the 50m butterfly. In addition, Ross achieved huge pbs in each of his other three events.

Laura Chitty was pleased with her two bronze medals for the 50m backstroke and freestyle while Jordan Trewartha continued to slash big chunks off his previous times in the 100m backstroke and freestyle.

Keziah Element earned some hugely improved times too, most notably in the 100m butterfly.

Thomas Matthews chipped an impressive four and half seconds off his 50m breaststroke time while Katie Paul and Harrison Yarnold were also delighted with their new times.

Margi Chitty, Tom Bennett, Charlotte Matthews and synchronised swimmer Jessie Element also took part.

Colin Cracknell, team manager for the Warriors at the competition, said: "West Dorset had not been to the Havant and Waterlooville meet before and it was really good.

"The atmosphere was relaxed which was what we wanted, as quite a few of the squad had not competed that much before either. All the kids did well and really enjoyed it, especially playing in the thick snow outside at lunchtime."

West Dorset Warriors train at both the Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre in Dorchester and at Bridport Leisure Centre and welcome swimmers and athletes of all levels.
