BRITAIN'S number one women's star and Weymouth Beach Classic title holder Lucy Boulton made a surprise trip to the resort to play in the Weymouth League.

Boulton, taking, a break from her travels on the World tour, played with local star and boyfriend Tristan Sheppard.

It was an interesting experience for the teams playing against such a strong player but Boulton and Sheppard did not have it all their own way.

In the semi-final they met Russell Laming and Alessio Boniolo, the match was always tight with Alessio and Laming leading for much of the way before Boulton and Sheppard edged ahead to take the match 16-14.

In the finals they met current top-ranked Weymouth side David Markwick and Terry Oldrid and triumphed 15-12.

Afterwards Boulton confirmed she would be appearing in the Weymouth Classic later this month where she will be again among the favourites for the title.

The evening also saw the first all-women's event which was won by Weymouth's number one team Leanne Studley and Louise Bugler who beat Veronca Siranova and Anna Rospedova from Yeovil in the final 21-12.

The B series was claimed by Ashley Smith and Adam James who beat Alex Turner and Neil Aplin 15-12.

The C Series was taken by Robin Brown and Matt Palmer who beat Lauren Reed and Ellouise Adams 15-11.

A number of the teams competing last Tuesday are off to Sandbanks this week for the Sandbank British tour event which they will use as an ideal warm-up for the top British tour event, the Weymouth Classic on the weekned of July 25-27.
