Postponement is a killer for Terras

By Adam Summers »

BRENDON King branded Saturday’s postponement an absolute killer both in terms of momentum and the club’s finances.

The Terras were desperate to build on last Tuesday’s victory at Stourbridge at the weekend but their home clash against Cirencester Town, fell victim to the recent cold snap.

It means Weymouth will not be in league action at the Bob Lucas Stadium again until February 18 when they are due to host Banbury United – 47 days after AFC Totton were the last visitors in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division on January 2.

King said: “Saturday’s postponement has killed us in more ways than one.

“After last Tuesday’s victory over Stourbridge the boys were buzzing and looking forward to building on that with a good display at home.

“It feels like we haven’t been at the Bob Lucas Stadium for ages and the fact we have to wait another couple of weeks is very frustrating.

“It also has financial implications as well.

“Our last league game on our own patch was Totton and that is a long time to go without money coming into the club.

“We did have the FA Trophy game against Alfreton Town but we had to share the gate that day.

“With our next home game not until February 18 that is certainly another thing we have to take into consideration.”

In a bid to keep his squad firing on all cylinders, King has arranged a home friendly against Portland United for tomorrow night (7.45pm).

He added: “We did try and rearrange things with Cirencester for tomorrow but they have a Gloucester Challenge Trophy game so we sorted something out with Portland instead.

“Not only will the friendly give Ben Joyce a chance to play alongside his new team-mates but it will also enable James Coutts to get some minutes under his belt.”

The Terras’ boss is also still hopeful of bringing Byron Napper back to the club on loan. The deal for the Crawley Town midfielder hit a snag late last week but King is confident it will go through.

He said: “It should get sorted today. It is just a case of getting the paperwork sorted.”

With every game in the Southern Premier Division having fallen to the weather at the weekend, the Terras remain 15th in the table, seven points above the drop-zone.
