BRENDON King believes the Terras may have unearthed a new gem after winning the race for striker Mark Ford.

The sought-after forward, who has plundered 35 goals in 22 matches for lower-league Blandford United this term, found the net again on Tuesday night as Weymouth drew 2-2 with Portland United in a friendly at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

And King has moved swiftly to secure his services. The Terras’ boss said: “He has agreed to sign and we’re obviously happy to get him because quite a few other clubs had offered him deals. I liked his attitude and he is keen to play for Weymouth Football Club.

“We didn’t discuss money and I think that speaks volumes. He’s not interested in money and that goes a long way.

“He was probably paying subs at Bland-ford but if he gets his head down here, gets a chance and takes it then the financial rewards will come his way.

“He knows where the goal is and you can’t buy that natural instinct. We may have found ourselves a gem.”

Meanwhile, King also confirmed that a new loan deal for James Coutts has been completed but the club is awaiting news on a possible return for Crawley Town’s Byron Napper.

The Terras are due to visit Barwell this weekend but King admits the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division fixture is already in doubt.

He added: “They have had a lot of snow up there so they will be keeping us updated.”
