ARLESEY TOWN 2 (McNamara 57, Mouko Nsue 67)

WEYMOUTH 3 (M Walker 27, Yetton 43, S Walker pen 78)

THE Terras held their nerve to collect all three points in a five-goal thriller at the Armadillo Stadium this afternoon.

Arlesey produced an incredible fight-back in the second half of this Southern Premier Division encounter, only for Scott Walker to eventually settle matters from the spot with just 12 minutes remaining.

The experienced winger replaced Mark Ford in the only change to the Weymouth side that began their previous league encounter against Corby.

Ford broke his foot in three places during that match with the Steelmen and has been ruled out for up to six weeks.

Barry McConnell also missed the trip to Bedfordshire following a family bereavement, while Luke Winsper, Luke Burbidge and Stewart Yetton all started after overcoming injuries in the days leading up to the game.

Nathan Walker, Carl McClements, Matt Harvey and Danny Clay were the only four players on the bench.

Clay and Cafer were making their last appearances for the club with the latter having just signed a professional contract with Gib-raltar Europa College in Spain.

With Arlesey having lost just one of their last nine in the league, this was always going to be a tough away trip for the Terras but, despite the wet conditions, it proved a fairly open game.

The visitors made the brighter start and went close twice in the opening six minutes.

Ashley Wells saw a shot saved after a fine pass from Burbidge before Ben Joyce sent an effort over the bar following a poor clearance The Terras were looking lively but moments later their opponents hit back with some pressure of their own.

Jonny McNamara and James Hatch were both set up with chances but neither player could hit the target.

Scott Walker then headed wide for Weymouth before a three-man move at the other end on 20 minutes saw Hatch finally test Jason Matthews, who made a fine save.

With chances being created by both sides, a goal appeared to be on the cards and it eventually arrived just six minutes later.

Stewart Yetton got on the end of a corner from Scott Walker and when the ball crashed down off the crossbar, there was Michael Walker to put Weymouth in front from close range.

Despite that breakthrough, the open nature of the contest continued with Luis Medina seeing an effort saved by Matthews just a minute later.

Hatch then sent a good chance wide of the target before Burbidge was denied by home keeper John Bonham following a superb pass from Winsper.

Both teams continued plugging away but, on 43 minutes, it was the Terras that grabbed a second when Yetton headed home an inch-perfect cross from George Rigg.

Arlesey clearly felt hard done by at the break and in the second half they came out all guns blazing.

At first, the Terras kept the home side at bay but when McNamara fired in a rebound on 57 minutes following an effort from Jason N’Guessan, the game quickly turned.

Suddenly the visitors looked edgy and although Wells made a timely intervention to deny Arlesey another opportunity shortly after, the Terras were unable to stop the Blues from getting back level.

The equaliser came on 67 minutes when a header back across goal from a free-kick enabled substitute Jaun Mouko Nsue to turn the ball in on his debut with a superb scissor-kick.

The momentum was now completely with the hosts but, after Matthews had denied both Rohdell Gordon and Kevin M’Bala, the Terras regained the lead from the spot, with just 12 minutes remaining.

Yetton was tripped just inside the box by Joseph and that allowed Scott Walker to fire in the resulting penalty to the delight of the travelling fans.

Arlesey were far from done though, and, in the closing stages, they piled forward once again.

Medina, Nsue and Gordon all tried their luck but in the end Weymouth somehow held on.
