WAREHAM RANGERS 1 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves suffered their second successive loss in the Dorset Premier League as they were edged edged out by Wareham Rangers at Purbeck Sports Centre.

In a nip and tuck encounter, a defensive slip early in the second half cost Jake Richmond’s charges.

The Terras sit fifth in the league standings, 11 points adrift of leaders Hamworthy Recreation.

“We did enough to win the game and ended up losing it,” the Terras’ boss told Echosport.

“We switched off for the first five minutes of the second half, we were still in the dressing room, and they upped their game.

“They scored the winning goal when they were on top and from there on it was just huff and puff from us.”

The closest the Terras came to finding the net was in the 11th minute when Jamie Beasley hit the post with a header from Sammy Nichols’ cross.

After going behind, Nichols then had a chance himself to level things up on 65 minutes when he jinked inside and hit a low shot which was well saved by the feet of the Rangers’ goalkeeper.

Richmond added: “It had 0-0 written all over it.

“I said to them at half-time that if anyone wins it, it will be from a mistake or a set-piece.

“I don’t think we deserved to lose but maybe it was just a case of not enough desire in the final third that cost us.”

One big plus for Weymouth was the reserve-team debut of left-back Levente Nagy, who has earned plaudits for his performances in the under-18s and under-21s.

And Richmond was impressed with how the 17-year-old handled himself.

He added: “The defensive side of his game he has to learn and he is very keen to get forward, but aerially he coped with everything and he is very tidy with the ball at his feet.

“He is always looking to play the ball to feet and he will always take the ball under pressure and he won’t lose it.

“He has taken his chance and there is a very strong chance that he will start this Saturday because he was superb.”
