CRANBORNE 2 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 6

BOSS Bradley Asagba believes new recruit Rhys Hayter could have a big future with the Terras.

The former Bridport youngster made his first appearance in Weymouth colours, coming off the bench in his new club’s 6-2 thumping of Dorset Premier League whipping boys Cranborne on Saturday.

Mark Ford and Sanchez Jansz-Baker both bagged braces respectively as well as a goal each for Ashley Ayley and Dan Peart in the Terras’ demolition of the Cranes, who remain bottom of the pile with just three points from their opening 13 league games.

Netting in reply for the home side was Dan Loader, who struck either side of the interval.

Hayter, who featured for the Bees’ first-team in league action last term, came on in place of scorer Ayley during the away side’s victory.

And Asagba is looking forward to giving the prospect more game time as the season develops.

Speaking about new signing Hayter, the Terras’ manager said: “He has been training with us for a while now and we have now got the paperwork completed. He had been at Lyme while we had sorted the paperwork out as well.

“He is a local-ish lad and he fits the profile in the way that he is still young with plenty of development to come and is one we hope that, certainly in the next couple of years, if not sooner, will be looking at breaking into the first team.

“From our point a view, we know he can do a job at right-back but we see him doing more of a job in central midfield and that is where he came on.

“He is a good enthusiastic lad and is a positive character. He was highly regarded at Bridport and they were a bit disappointed with the fact he chose to leave them. From our point of view, to get him playing for us is pleasing.

“He has that pedigree, it’s just a case of him kicking on a little bit.”

Speaking about the win itself, Asagba added: “We should have really been out of sight by half-time just in terms of the chances we created.

“We would have like to have scored a few more goals but, without being disrespectful to them, the fact that it finished only six I think they will be relatively pleased with to be honest.

“We did carve them open at will at times.”
