WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0 HAMWORTHY REC 0

RESERVES chief Bradley Asagba was content with his side’s efforts in recording a point against defending Dorset Premier League champions Hamworthy Recreation at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Terras, like the club's first team, blooded a new goalkeeper at the weekend in the shape of former Verwood Town stopper Adam Tong, and he capped his first performance with a clean sheet.

Reflecting on the contest, Asagba told Echosport: “They are the champions so would I have taken a draw before the game? Probably, yes.

“But as the game panned out we are a bit disappointed that we only got a point out of it.

“We feel we kind of did enough to get the three points but I can’t be too fussy. It was a decent point.

“They have had one clear chance from which our keeper made a good save and, on reflection, we had a few clear chances.”

Opportunities for the home side fell to Mark Ford throughout the contest and the Terras also had a goal disallowed when Oliver Clayton was ruled offside after heading in from Sean Zima’s cross.

“We aren’t too upset because it’s a good point and somebody pointed out after the game that it’s the first time we have taken points off them for a while,” Asagba added.

Speaking about debutant gloveman Tong, the Weymouth manager continued: “He is somebody that I have played with and known since he was young.

“Happily for us he became available. He was signed on for Verwood but wasn’t able to commit.

“We became aware of it and for us it was a no-brainer, especially with Jason (Matthews, first-team player-manager) struggling with injury.

“To get Adam into the ranks is certainly good for us and good for the club because he has a good pedigree and, although he didn’t have too much to do on Saturday, he was impressive in everything he did.

“Paul (Maitland, goalkeeping coach) is very aware of his capabilities and the gauntlet is thrown down that if he wants to push Steve (Boore) and Jason then it is up to him how far he pushes them.”

The stalemate means Weymouth Reserves occupy fifth spot in the table, nine points adrift of current league leaders Merley Cobham Sports.
