WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2

TOTTON & ELING 2

WEYMOUTH Reserves’ boss Bradley Asagba said his side deserved more after their 2-2 draw against Totton & Eling in the Sydenhams Wessex First Division.

The game got off to the worst possible start as the home side went 1-0 down inside the first 10 minutes, when a long ball was picked up by the Totton forward, who cut inside and managed to scuff his shot into the far corner.

Weymouth looked far superior for large spells but had their deficit doubled just before half-time when a clearance into the channel found its way to the visiting forward whose cross-shot found its way past the goalkeeper and into the net.

The Terras battled hard to get back into the game, creating a plethora of chances in the process and got their reward when 16-year-old Dane James played the ball through to Baker-Jansz who took the ball down, outmuscled the defender before he rifled the ball into the roof of the net.

Despite numerous chances, and substitute Ayley being sent off for a second bookable offence, Weymouth did manage to grab an equaliser late on as Connor Jevon took the ball around two defenders before being taken down for a penalty, which Sean Stuart stepped up to convert.

After the game, manager Bradley Asagba was adamant the game deserved a different outcome.

He said: “It was anything but a fair result but my immediate reaction was that I was delighted to get a point.

“If we had lost that game it would have been really deflating irrespective of the amount of players we had out. We did enough to win the game two or three times over.

“In terms of what they brought they did very little. They had a spell at the beginning and another midway through the first half, other than that it was one-way traffic.

“In the second half, we had 10 or 11 presentable opportunities, but their keeper had a sensational game.”

The Weymouth manager was clearly frustrated at not being able to win the game, but said that in hindsight he may look back on the game differently.

He said: “Going into the week I’ll look at it as two points which we dropped but within the context of the game I’m relieved because to salvage a draw and even when it looked like we weren’t going to get anything was pleasing, we just kept going.

“In this league, perhaps we should be satisfied with a point but certainly I think our performance deserved the three points.”
