STURMINSTER MARSHALL 3 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 3
WEYMOUTH Reserves were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after Sturminster Marshall grabbed a late equaliser at Churchill Close.
A Simon Crouch double handed the Terras a two-goal advantage at the break but the rejuvenated hosts eventually restored parity.
Substitute Chucky Taylor, replacing the injured Pete Jarvis, thought he had snatched a winner for the visitors, only to see Marshall level proceedings once more within a matter of minutes.
Describing the action, joint-manager Nick Bennett said: “We started off really brightly and took control of the game early on.
“I thought we adapted to the pitch well, given that it was heavy and we couldn’t play our usual passing game. We went really close to taking the lead with a five-man move but we eventually opened the scoring through Simon.
“It was 2-0 eight minutes later when Simon finished well from a tight angle following an excellent 30-yard ball by Ashley Staines.
“So at half-time we were really happy as we were very much in control.
“Unfortunately we lost Pete to injury just after half-time. He was playing a defensive role for us and the only substitute we had was Chucky, who is a forward, so we had to change our shape a bit.
“Sturminster came back into the game a bit more and they took a gamble by throwing more people forward.
“They put us under pressure but we managed to weather it quite well. They came back at us again and scored from a corner before nicking another.
“The game was quite stretched but we still looked dangerous and we had a good appeal for a penalty turned down.
“They were pushing for a winner and on 82 minutes we hit them on the break. Simon crossed from the left and Chucky tucked it away.
“However, they scored two or three minutes later to nick a late equaliser.
“We were disappointed but it was a positive performance on a poor pitch and against determined opposition.”
Terras: Povall, Staines, Sharpe, Budden, Anstey, Zima, Jarvis (Taylor 50), Head, Moore, Crouch, Winsper.
