WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0 TINTINHULL 0
WEYMOUTH’S walking wounded produced a compact display to claim a share of the spoils against Tintinhull at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Injuries and county call-ups ravaged the Terras’ ranks in the days leading up to the clash but they more than held their own and on another day could have won it.
Joint-boss Jake Richmond, whose side remain second-bottom in the Magna Dorset Premier League, said: “For much of the game both teams cancelled each other out.
“In the first half we had a lot of the possession without really creating much.
“They then had a good 25-minute spell in the second half where they put us under a bit of pressure but we stayed nice and compact, and could have gone on to win it towards the end.
“Most of the chances in the game came from set-pieces with both teams hitting the woodwork.
“They hit a post and then saw Dan Moore turn another effort against the post and bar with a fine clearance from the goal-line.
“Adam Anstey then headed against a post for us before Rob Maxted saw another attempt cleared off the line.
“We also created a couple of other chances with Luke Winsper and Jordan Vincent both having efforts saved and Adam seeing another header kept out by a full-length stop with just two minutes remaining.
“Considering the amount of players we had missing and the number of players that were carrying knocks I was quite happy at the end.
“The performance was half decent, we kept a clean sheet and had we had an out-and-out striker on the day I think we would have probably won it.”
Mark Robinson and Vincent filled the gaps at the back for the Terras while Maxted moved up front alongside Ricky Lane.
It was Vincent’s first competitive outing for nearly a year and Richmond was delighted with his performance.
He added: “Jordan was outstanding and it was great to have Robbo back there as well. He held everything together and made a big difference in terms of settling everyone down.
“We really were the walking wounded out there.
“Adam Skelton, Luke, Rob and Ricky all played with knocks and even Chucky Taylor, who came on in the second half, was not fully fit so I think the lads deserve a lot of credit for their efforts, particularly as we also had three with the county and a couple out injured.
“Four or five weeks ago we would have probably lost that game but the lads dug in and showed great character throughout.”
One player that will not be returning to the Terras is forward Simon Crouch, who has decided to return to Portland United Reserves.
Terras: Povall, Sharpe, Anstey, Vincent, Robinson, Winsper, Skelton, Moore, Zima, Maxted (Budden 75), Lane (Taylor 60).
